Hey there, I’m Matt Barrie! I’m the author of this blog and have been navigating life for over 30 years with type 1 diabetes.
This site serves as a platform for me to share my journey, and the tips and tricks I’ve discovered along the way. Conventional macro-nutrient diet management wasn’t helping me with weight-loss and controlling my HbA1c (long-term blood sugar levels) so I began exploring the ketogenic approach in January of 2017.
After trying several different versions of keto with limited to moderate success, I began a strict 100% all-in approach in August 2019.
Since then, I’ve lost 60 pounds, made huge gains in terms of my strength and condition, and have seen a significant improvement in my glucose management

The full picture
There are many factors to my success with the weight loss and control of my type 1 diabetes. It’s easy to think “oh, diet and exercise does the trick” but it’s really way more nuanced than that. Diet and exercise are key pillars to diabetes management and weight managmenet, but really, for me, the number one piece is mindset. Without a positive mindset, diet and exercise are no guarantee.
I’m looking so forward to creating content for this site that explores all three of these areas. As you’ll discover, I love food, I love exercise and being active, and I work on my mindset constantly.
